Advice on starting MFL from scratch in my new post

Discussion in 'Modern foreign languages' started by bronagh1, May 3, 2011.

  1. I'll be taking a side-ways move to another secondary school where I'll again be Curriculum Coordinator for MFL. The only problem is that MFL is a seriously failing area there and they told me that I'd have a blank canvas to start everything all over again. The school up until now has only offered French with no uptake at KS4 next year so they're very keen on me introducing Spanish as I'm a Spanish specialist. I was wondering if anyone has experience of teaching KS3 French & Spanish in years 7 & 8 and then starting KS4 from Year 9 and what resources/text books they have been using? (I was actually thinking of using Mira Express for Spanish but have no idea what would be good for French). Am also unsure as to whether I should introduce both languages in Year 7, or one in Year 7 then the other in Year 8. All ideas would be gratefully received!!!
