Advice for an NQT teaching a child with Down Syndrome

    Hi there
I am an NQT and, having met my new class yesterday, have discovered that one of my Year 3s has Down Syndrome. I am keen to do my best for this child as I would be for any other, but have no experience at all of how to go about this. I intend to learn some basic Makaton to help with communication, but was wondering if there is a book I could read to get ideas of how to fully include him in my lessons and how to differentiate effectively for him.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

As an NQT you should get additional time and adittional CPD opportunities. Ask for a special school visit and get some expert advice
