    Angel Gabriel

    Luke 1:26-28, 31

“In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, ‘Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you… You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.’”

I think the arrival of the Angel Gabriel with the message happened somewhat more than 24 days before Jesus was born? If not it has to be the quickest pregnancy in a human ever!

The Annunciation is traditionally commemorated on March 25th, nine months before Christmas Day. Not that either date is accurate, given that December 25th was only fixed as the date by Constantine in AD336, as a means of incorporating/hijacking various pre-existing midwinter festivals into the Christian faith following its becoming the official Roman religion.

Is Erin the new Gene Vincent? or even the old one?

I think there are a couple of him having a conversation with himself on the favourite Xmas song thread too.

I have a similarly sized block print of that. Bought for me in a bookshop near the Duomo in Florence. I love madonnas.

Can we please keep this advent thread about the coming of Jesus. I don't mind humor, but the tone is not nice with by sid_P*** and lascarina.

So do I. The colors on the original are so amazing and cleverly done.

No I don't rate Madonna, she has turned into a scary stringy old bag.

Or highly flavoured gravy if most primary school carol singers are to be believed.

That interval (a 5th) in la-dy is the single worst potential abomination in the whole of music.

The hideous glissando that most singers produce at this point is the most abhorrent noise most choir-leaders will ever hear.
