Ability grouping nqt

Discussion in 'Primary' started by anon4038, Aug 15, 2011.

  1. I start my NQT year in september with year 1/2. I have been asked to group my children by ability, however many of the year 1's are much higher ability than the 2's.
    I
have used the assessment data to 'rank' the children by ability (as
horrible as it sounds, i do intend to take a much more personalised
approach once in the classroom but this is how ive been asked to do it).

The problem that ive got is that im getting confused as to where
to put the year 1's as their assessment data is based on the early
years scales, I can rank the year 2's by 1c, 1b, 1a, 2c etc, but im
struggling to fit the year 1's into this.
    Any advice much appreciated [IMG]

  3. Hi,

We have been handed a tracking sheet that says, if they score FSP 7 that's the same as a 1c, FSP 8 = 1b and FSP 9 = 1a.

  4. Thank you!
By that do you mean that those are the grades they are currently, or the grades they can expect at the end of year 1?

    Many thanks[IMG]

  5. The FSP score is what they get at the end of FS, converting it to a NC level is very hit and miss
