    Hi all
Im after a bit of advice and hope someone can help me.
I have booked a French trip to Normandy for 40 y8 and y9 students and have been told by the company that I can go on an inspection visit. My school have refused to allow me to go saying other foreign trips have gone elsewhere in the past and not needed an inspection trip so this has taken precedent.
Im a bit worried to sign a risk assessment on a place I have never been to? Has anyone else done this or how did you get around it?
I have even offered to go over a weekend and pay for my own flight...but that wasn't good enough either.
    Any help gratefully received

    1. I would say that in this case you are not the person signing off the trip So eine senior is saying it's OK. Make sure you have it in writing.
    2. If yuy have booked with a company, do they have a risk assessment?
    3. For your risk assessment, can you include that monitoring of risk and briefing of pupils will be done there? Things like out of bounds, traffic etc will be done there.
    4. The problem is that if you decide the location is utterly unsuitable, then the company can say you had the opportunity to do a visit. But then again they shouldn't be selling unsuitable acvommodation.

Does your school have a visits coordinator who should be advising you? They can also ring County for advice. It is possible to take trips without a visit, especially based on info given by a specialist booking company. Is their offer of an inspection offered as a perk, for peace of mind, or as part of handing liability back to you?

Ask the travel company for their RA on the place, as well as on the included visits.

There is a leaflet which might help you.

    Here it is

I ran trips abroad for several years and never did an inspection visit as the agency I used had full risk assessments which the safeguarding officer at my school used to check and sign off. Are similar arrangements not in place at your school?

I have run many visits abroad for over 20 years with no inspection visit and no problems. Used the holiday company RA.
