A term off for travelling?

Discussion in 'Workplace dilemmas' started by easytiger, Jan 18, 2012.

  1. Hi!
I'd like to take the Autumn term as unpaid leave to go and do some voluntary work in Sri Lanka. Is there a clause in our Terms and Conditions that allow such career breaks or is it totally at the discretion of the governing body?
    Thanks for any advice!

Iit is totally at the discretion of the governing body; however, I should add that the gb will usually be advised by the headteacher on this matter - should s/he say they do not wish to grant it, it is most unlikely the gb would over-ride him/her.
  4. Thanks very much for that!

Why not go in the summer vacation? A wonderful experience :)

A friend of mine went volunteering for a school term to teach English in Morocco. She had an amazing experience. The governors were more than happy to release her for a term.
