a school visit which turned out to be an interview

Why not?
It sounds quite a nice school. They took the time to show you round the school as an individual, showed you the classroom and you then had a talk with the SMT AND were concerned enough to ask you if you had any questions.
I think you're possibly over-reacting here and being a bit over-sensitive, just because you weren't expecting such an individual session, especially if you've been shown round 'in bulk' before. Just think again, now you've gained a little distance. If you still say 'it's not the school for me', then it isn't and move on.

Apart from the interview/chat, did you like the school? If the answer is yes, then don't cut your nose off to spite your face - apply! HT and DHT may have been writing some really positive things about you - if you don't apply, you will never know what could have been...
3. Thank you for all your responses. They are very positive. I did like the school though. I will go ahead and apply. Thank you.

That's good to hear. If you do get an interview and look around the school and decide it's not for you, remember you can still pull out at that point. People realise that you have to feel right about the school just as they do about you.

This happened to me a couple of times. I quite liked it though - at least I left knowing they knew who I was and when they got my application they'd remember me. Unlike when there's 149 of you all looking round together and they have no idea who's who.
One I went to look at, there were around 6 of us who were there. the head sat down at the start and asked us to tell him a little about ourselves - name, where we studies, subject specialisms etc. I didn't get an interview, but called today to get feedback on my application only to be told they hadn't appointed and would probably reinterview and he was pleased I called! He remembered me from when I looked around. I've got some supply out of it and I'm reasonably confident they might interview me after all. That wouldn't have have happened had it been a standard visit as he wouldnt' have known who I was.
6. Wow! Great. I am glad I wrote this post because the responses are very encouraging and I cant wait to complete my application form and personal statement.
