I would like to say how beautifully written and incisive this book is. It seemed to me to describe the emotional turmoil and difficulties faced by a boy coping with his mother's terminal illness accurately, sensitively and in a way that kept me reading almost without pause. The hardback version is outstanding with stunning illustrations by Jim Kay. Can't imagine anyone finishing without at least welling up and yet still having enjoyed the experience.

oooooh i read this book this weekend and thought it was great and yes, welled up too, especially considering the background to the novel. Am going to share it with my classes next week. You might also like 'My Sister lives on the Mantlepiece' by Annabel Pitcher...another tear jerker! :)
