A level Art and Design Textiles

Discussion in 'Design and technology' started by escobar, May 15, 2011.

  1. Hello,
I wondered if anyone is teaching the Art and Design Textiles? If you are, please could you get in touch with me and let me know how you are getting on. After considerable research this course looks the best, and I would be interested to know what you all think.
    Thank you in advance.Take care.
  2. Hello,
We are switching over in September too, just way too fed up of the AQA spec for textiles tech. We are going to use OCR, with their endorsed Art and Design; Fashion and Textiles. The WHOLE spec for AS AND A2 is 4 A4 pages!!!!!!! projects, specialisms and design briefs are set by the centre!!!! and a practical exam which will really measure their skills at the end. Its my dream A-level. Just got to plan all the SOW now.
Give me an email and maybe we can swap ideas? ahare@suttonlea.org
  3. Hi Amy - might email you about this. i looked at it but was very confused...............!
  4. Hi,
Im currently doing my PGCE year and both my placements taught Art & Design Textiles at Alevel and one taught it at GCSE also... after comparing it with AQAs Textiles Tech, I much perfer it!!! It gives pupils the opportunity to be more free with their work and ability to be more creative. Im lucky enough that my new school that I will be working in Sept do it at A-Level aswell.
Pupils at both placements really enjoyed it and the course often had a high intakes for GCSE & Alevel !!
  5. I'm contemplating switching too. That AQA spec is totally inaccessable. I am sick of trying to teach stuff I don't really know much aboput with no text book to back it up.
My Y13's told me, they would rather do the Art and Design option rather than the tech version......just need to convince the Head of Art
