It was the very dead of night at TES Towers.Rain was coming down outside like stair rods and slapping ominously at the windows. The on duty moderator, for it was she, was burning the midnight oil at her desk and counting the hours till dawn when....

there was a scratching noise from beyond the door, which swung gently in a breeze which shouldn't have been there. She raised her head more a moment, her ears pricking up at the sound, and then discounted it as her tiredness, and returned back to the computer screen, searching for swearwords to asterisk. All of a sudden she heard......

a fizzing sound and a sudden flickering of her monitor drew her attention. She watched transfixed as an unearthly green glow spread slowly from the lower left hand corner diagonally across the screen until the whole room pulsed with a luminous and hypnotic light.

.........and then 'BANG!' The monitor went dead and the lights, for what they were, went off. The power had been cut to the whole office block. Due to the recession, TES Towers had moved from a swanky office in the Colmore Business area of Birmingham to a small first floor room, barely the size of a bedsit, at the end of a row of derelict houses outside Balsall Heath just off the Inner Ring Road. Outside the windows, was a blackness unbecoming to the UKS second city. Whatever had caused the power outage had caused it over a large area, perhaps the whole city! The duty moderator, Katy, shuddered, remembering that the very buidings next to her were often used as crack dens by the city's homeless and the massacre that had taken place there only a week ago, where a scythe wielding figure dressed as the Grim Reaper had beheaded 3 addicts............

.the hand of Bill, the night watchman. 'It appears we'm ouet of electriceetie' he said, in his strong Birmingham accent. Although it was unseasonably mild for Halloween, and the city had enjoyed record breaking temperatures of 21.C, it suddenly felt as if the temperature had dropped by a good 10 degrees.......

another hand but this was deathly cold and sent a chill right through her. She longed for the friendly presence of TES_ Rosaline and all the other TES__Mods who were always so kind to her in the day time. Why, why, why had she put herself down for overtime she asked herself.

Once again her attention was drawn to the screen where, in pulsating letters a message was gradually being spelled out. She leaned forward to decipher it

...Also, she was only too aware that with the moderation down, all manner of trolls would now be running riot on the TES fora. She looked at the message........It spelled out D...............I................

, the hand hit the ground, just as an 'E' completed the message. Behind, a glint of metal caught Katy's eye. It was...........
