Gambling is addictive and ruins lives. We all know someone who has lost so much through it. There are many out there willing to take advantage of the weaknesses of people. Over the past 20 years or so gambling has grown out of hand. We used to view it as such a bad thing that betting shops had to have blinds over their windows without advertising on them. Now you can look right into the shops. But worse, TV is doing its damnedest to bring gambling into peoples homes TV matches at all times of day carry powerful adverts to entice people into picking up their laptops and betting on all sorts of things that may happen in the game. I quote an email from 38 degrees. "Dear TCSC, We’ve got one week to stop gambling companies ruining lives. They push addictive betting machines dubbed the ‘crack cocaine’ of gambling. They run adverts on TV when young children are watching. It’s causing thousands of gambling addictions across the UK. The government already admits the problem is out of hand, and they could decide to crackdown in a matter of days. They've launched a consultation which could mean new rules to ban TV adverts before 10pm, and limits on how much people gamble on betting machines in one go. The consultation closes next Sunday and gambling companies know they’ll lose money if this crackdown happens. That means they’ll be pulling out all the stops this week to change the government's mind. We need to move fast to tell the government to stand up to the gambling bosses and stop more people getting sucked in. Please can you sign the petition right now? It’ll take just 10 seconds.
