6 areas of learning

Discussion in 'Early Years' started by onthewayhome, Feb 3, 2011.

  1. I've heard a rumour that the government may be planning to reduce the number of areas of learning.
Does anyone know any more about this?

How could they possibly do that? What would they knock out???!!!!!!!
  3. Northern Ireland -

  4. Our EYFS 6 areas currently stands at:
    Personal, Social and Emotional Development
    Communication Language and Literacy
    Problem Solving Reasoning and Numeracy
    Physical Development
    Creative Development
Knowledge and Understanding of the World

    So the same as NI.
I am intrigued by this rumour. What would go?
  5. Ni used to also have SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY - dropped/consumed into WAU thus 6 areas all interlinked...

Do you think they will get rid of the word numeracy? In primary, it's now mathematics!
  7. On a course recently, the training consultant said that the assessment scales would reduce but the 6 areas would stay.

On another course, we were told to put more emphasis on reading, so where the 6 areas should have equal weighting, the balance should now swing more towards CLL.

    They're only rumours though!
