6 areas of learning anad the outdoor area

  1. I would be grateful for any help

    Do the 6 areas of learning have to be reflected in the outdoor area also? If so where does it state this?

    I think the answer to this is yes, but you need to think about how the space and resources you have can be used to enhance learning rather than creating fixed areas. For example, if you have a gardening area then you are already looking at number and writing as well as KUW ... probably some physical too.
     
  5. think about the areas of provision you have outside rather than stand alone areas of learning, e.g.
    <u>a digging pit</u> develops gross motor skills, strengthens upper body and wrists, develops an awareness of space, encourages responsible behaviour/use of resources, encourages exploration of materials/textures and the natural world around them, impacts on language/vocab as sensorial experiences promote the use of language and communication, it also allows children to gain contextual experiences of different weights/capacity/depth, the mud pit can also be used creatively for making mud pies/role play, etc - so essentailly is covers all 6 areas of learning
    <u>a large construction area</u> with resources such as crates, planks, sticks, poles, guttering, fabrics, ropes, pegs, string, tape, boxes, etc will promote use of postional vocab and mathematical vocab along with awareness of shape and space on larger scale using the whole of their body, relating to their indoor block play experineces and thus strengething learning pathways and understanding - consolidating and adapting their thinking. It also develops all motor skills, safe use of equipment, thought and consideration for others, a sense of achievement and pride. children can use the resources creatively as they are open ended so the opportunities for creative development are massive. language will develop as they will work alongside others building up communication skills as they negotiate, direct, discuss and think out loud. Add some whiteboards/clipboards to the area alongside relevant information books. Again all 6 areas of learning can be covered in this area of outdoor provision

    things outside should extend and develop what is done inside - outside things should be large scale as most indoor things are small scale
