As we all know, a level 5 will become the new grade for a good pass at GCSE. Does this mean any student with a grade 4 will have to carry on studying maths in year 12 until they get a grade 5, or is it going to remain at a C/4?

From Nick Gibb: for 2017/18 and 2018/19 only Grade 3 and below will have to retake. From 2019/20 those on Grade 4 will also need to retake. For confirmation see JustMaths's blog.

Thanks for your help. It is obviously going to have a big impact in a few years time. Another 15 or 20 % of the cohort continuing with their maths education beyond 16. It is hard finding maths teachers to fit current needs, and with even more demand in a few years time it is only going to get tougher.
