A drink-driving milkman arrested while in his float on an early morning round has been banned for 18 months.

Brian Gallagher, of Leckwith, Cardiff, was pulled over by
police after just missing parked cars when they spotted him swerving at
    about 1am.

He was seen "to fall from his float and staggering to pick up a pint of milk".

Gallagher, 51, was fined £100 by magistrates after admitting having 62 micrograms of alcohol. The limit is 35.

He was sacked from his dairy after the arrest.

Gareth McMahon, prosecuting, said: "A police officer had been
called after reports that the milk float had been involved in a
    possible collision at around 1am.

"The officer followed the milk float at a distance. He
described the vehicle as swerving from left to right across the road and
    only narrowly missing parked cars.

"After failing to stop at road markings, Gallagher was stopped by the officer.

"The officer said Gallagher fell from the milk float and staggered to the rear of vehicle to pick up a pint of milk.

The float was impounded after Gallagher's arrest

"As the officer could smell intoxicants and from his observations he was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving."

His milk float was impounded by police and had to be taken
away on a low loader from his rounds at Kings Road, Pontcanna, Cardiff,
    earlier this month.

Defending himself, Gallagher said: "I had drunk a bottle of
wine with a meal earlier that night before starting my shift at
    10.30pm."
