Gareth McMahon, prosecuting, said: "A police officer had been called after reports that the milk float had been involved in a possible collision at around 1am. "The officer followed the milk float at a distance. He described the vehicle as swerving from left to right across the road and only narrowly missing parked cars. "After failing to stop at road markings, Gallagher was stopped by the officer. "The officer said Gallagher fell from the milk float and staggered to the rear of vehicle to pick up a pint of milk. The float was impounded after Gallagher's arrest "As the officer could smell intoxicants and from his observations he was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving." His milk float was impounded by police and had to be taken away on a low loader from his rounds at Kings Road, Pontcanna, Cardiff, earlier this month. Defending himself, Gallagher said: "I had drunk a bottle of wine with a meal earlier that night before starting my shift at 10.30pm."
